Nativity scene Holy Family made of bronze (3 parts) by Hamidou

This nativity scene consists of: St. Mary, St. Joseph and the baby Jesus . The two large figures are between 11 (Mary) and 20cm (Joseph) tall.

The bronze nativity scene was created by the Burkinabe artist Hamidou Ouedraogo.

Working with bronze is a traditional craft in Burkina Faso. The term bronze refers to various alloys based on copper, zinc, lead and tin, the proportions of which vary. Today, bronze comes from the recycling of old fittings, such as faucets or parts from air conditioning systems.

The artist first creates a wax sculpture, which is covered with a sand mixture of clay and dung and dried. The mold is then cooked, the wax melts and escapes through the holes. The molten alloy is poured and takes the place of the wax. After cooling, the mold is broken to remove the sculpture and make the final touches. Each piece is therefore unique.
