This sun mask from Burkina Faso is worn in front of the face, held by a large rope that the dancer holds between his teeth, to celebrate the harvest and or to honor famous people at their funeral. Typical of African art, it represents the sun. It is decorated with engravings of two-tone triangular geometric motifs.

It protects the village from evil spirits, encourages the marriage of young people and brings health to newborns. Its main function is to eradicate evil and restore the God-given balance between sun, earth and rain.
