Christmas decoration "Desert Moon" from the project MADE51 (UNHCR)
Christmas decoration "Desert Moon" from the project MADE51 (UNHCR)
Made by Tuareg refugees from Niger, the metalwork used to create this crescent moon is an example of impressive traditional techniques used to create both utilitarian and decorative objects. For these nomadic pastoral peoples who traditionally inhabit a large area in the Sahara, the moon is a symbol of protection and prosperity.
This product is part of a beautiful Christmas decoration collection from Made 51 and is lovingly made by artisans in refugee camps in 16 countries around the world.
Each piece reflects the stories, traditions and craft techniques of the refugees. This makes them a special gift at Christmas time.
MADE51 was launched by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). UNHCR works to protect refugee rights and build a better future for refugees, displaced persons and stateless people.

This ornament is absolutely beautiful and meaningful, because made by a refugee. I love moogoo's art, but appreciate their selling products of those who otherwise would not have a market.
